The Plain Old Truth Of Being An Entrepreneur

There is a very big truth when it comes to being an entrepreneur. People that are entrepreneurs know and expect this truth. They understand that it is just a part of being an entrepreneur. And the truth is this:

“YOU WILL ALWAYS RUN INTO CHALLENGES, ROADBLOCKS, AND SETBACKS AS YOU BUILD YOUR BUSINESS.”

It is really as simple as that. Being an entrepreneur means that you understand and accept this truth. If you do not accept it, you are probably not really an entrepreneur but more of an employee that wants to be their own boss.

I know that in my time in business, I was not always an entrepreneur. I would have plans that I were sure were going to workout and they failed miserably. Back then, this was very hard for me. I felt that if I made a plan, the plan had to work out.

So when something like major marketing effort ended up falling through or a partner of mine ended up walking on me, I use to think the worst. I use to think that it was the end; the business was going to crash or the traffic that I was getting would be gone. These are both things that point towards not being a true entrepreneur.

SO HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE AN ENTREPRENEUR???

It really is very simple. In my opinion, it all has to do with your mindset. That is it, how you think.

If you have something happen to you or to your business, like a partner walking out on you, and you keep moving forward, you know that you are an entrepreneur.

Do you see what I am saying here? You are the one that controls what you feel about any situation so if something bad happens to you or to your business, you decide the result. The result might be that you go out and find another partner, it might mean that you look for some other type of marketing that can make up for what fell. The point is, it’s up to you.

So being an entrepreneur means that you are open and ready to be flexible to the challenges that will come up. And believe me, you will have challenges. There will be times that you find things are not going your way.

Just remember to look at it like an entrepreneur. Solve the problem that has come up and keep moving forward. This is what myself and every other successful entrepreneur that I know has done.

THEY MOVE THROUGH THE CHALLENGE AND COME OUT ON TOP.

I think that a lot of people fail at starting any kind of business because they want success quickly and can’t handle the obstacles that get in their way.

No matter what business someone is in, there are going to be things that happen to set us back or slow us down, so we might as well learn to deal with them. I think everyone should go into it with the mindset of “I’m going to make this work no matter what”.

I feel the same way Angel.

If we all went into busienss with the attitude of “I’m going to make this work no matter what’, we would have so many more people become successful in business. There would not be all of these people dropping like flies. Success is so about the mindset.

Hi Steven –

I think we get to a point where we don’t even recognize setbacks as setbacks (so I wonder if they’re still really setbacks at all).

If you view it all as an adventure, or even a game (one that you want to win, of course) it makes it a lot harder to be ‘taken out’ when things don’t quite go the way we think they shoukd.

I feel sorry for people whose moods hang on whether things are going “perfectly” or not… not only are they stressed/depressed when they don’t need to be — I shudder to think of how many opportunities pass them by while they’re laying on the couch wallowing in self pity.

Have a family member just like that – oooh the drama of it all … [rolling eyes] …

I think that we all have family members like that. People that you can see opportunities right in front of them and they totally miss them.
